"DEDICATED IN GRATEFUL AND LOVING TRIBUTE TO ALL WHO SERVED IN THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES TO DEFEND THEIR IDEALS AND PAVE THE WAY FOR PEACE"
President Patricia Agliata places a wreath near the Obelisk at Veteran's Memorial Garden as a fellow Rotarian raises and lowers the flag.
It is Denville Rotary's annual tradition to celebrate the memory of all those who served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America.
In 1976, to celebrate our country's bicentennial, Paul Harris Fellow Franz Fuertges designed, built and donated to Denville Township, Bicentennial Garden, located at the intersection of Bloomfield Avenue and Broadway. Franz installed a flag pole, planted a Red Oak Tree (New Jersey's state tree) and flowers in a red, white and blue color scheme making the garden a beautiful entry into the downtown area. The dedication of the Bicentennial Garden was held on July 4, 1976.
In 1982, Rotary enhanced Bicentennial Garden with the addition of a thirteen foot Veteran's Memorial Obelisk, a fountain, water, electric and a lighting system for the area. These improvements were dedicated on Memorial Day, 1983. In 2001, to further beautify the area, a paver crosswalk was installed across Second Avenue and Bloomfield Avenue with the Rotary Wheel placed in the center. In 2012, the entire lighting system was replaced with all work being done by Rotarians. For the past 39 years, Denville Rotary has gathered on Memorial Day to celebrate the men and women who bravely served our country.
